    Remarks:
Cost of the monument was $4,000; $500 of which was left as a bequest by Aaron Lawrence. The remainder of the sum was appropriated by the town of Amherst. The base of the monument was cut from local granite. Although the monument was in place by December 1871, it was not dedicated until 1890, due to a conflict over dedication ceremony expenses. The 1890 dedication ceremony was provided by the town at a cost of $300 and coincided with the reunion of the Veterans of the 10th New Hampshire Regiment. On July 4, 1985 the monument was rededicated with new plaques honoring veterans of other wars. IAS files contain transcriptions of all names listed on honor roll plaques.
