Remarks:
The monument was erected by a single individual, Andrew Jackson Lawrence, in honor of all soldiers, particularly those from Chattooga County, Georgia, who fought in the Civil War, and the women on the homefront during the Civil War. A. J. Lawrence founded the town of Menlo where the sculpture is located and during the Civil War, Lawrence fought for the South, but deserted. His brother was killed fighting for the North.
