    Description: 
    Granite boulder with two bronze bas-relief plaques. At the top of the plaque attached to the south side of the boulder is a bust relief portrait of Thomas Hart Benton. His head is turned slightly to his proper left. The rest of the plaque is filled with an inscription. In the upper half of the plaque attached to the north side of the boulder is a relief landscape of a riverbank, with a back view of a standing male figure in the foreground. The figure's proper right arm is outstretched. An inscription fills the lower half of the plaque. The short circular base is composed of two parts: the upper part is cast concrete, and the lower part consists of granite blocks set into mortar, with the outer rim of the base concrete.

    Remarks: 
    Erected through the efforts of Mrs. H. J. S. Seely and a committee of the Elizabeth Benton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. IAS files contain copies from Kansas City Journal, Dec. 30, 1902, pg. 4, which mentions a proposal for a monument to Thomas Hart Benton to be placed in Kansas City.
