    Female figure modelled on Fay Hessian stands atop a base which is part of an ornate fountain. The figure wears a loose gown.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by Denis Hessian in memory of his daughter Fay who died of tuberculosis in her twenties. The statue was carved in Italy, based on a likeness of Fay Hessian. The fountain is comprised of over three million pieces. It was built in segments in West Bend, Iowa where the artist, Father Dobberstein, was serving as a priest. Statue was completed in 1917. It was shipped in segments to the site and assembled there. IAS files include related articles from the Republican (Humboldt, IA), Sept. 27, 1918 and additional information.
