    A bronze portrait of John Ball seated on a long granite bench with his two children. His daughter is seated on his proper right knee and his son stands on his proper left side.

    Remarks: 
    John Ball (1794-1884) was a lawyer, teacher, and world traveler who came to Grand Rapids in 1836 as a land speculator. When he died, he left forty acres for the park and zoo. The artist based his portrait on photographs and a sketch by Mrs. Gertrude Van Houten.
