    Remarks:
Originally commissioned by the Birmingham Bar Association for their Law Day project. To assist with fundraising, the commission was adopted by the Jefferson County Historic Commission. $5,000 in seed money toward the commission was contributed by the Jefferson Federal Savings and Loan, who desired a statue for their property and who received the first casting from the plaster working model. It stood on a marble pedestal in a niche outside the Bank, until the Bank closed. On August 8, 1992, the sculpture and plaster cast were sold through the Auction Gallery of Richmond, VA to Jefferson State Community College on Aug. 8, 1992. The College paid $3,850 for the statue and plaster cast. At the time of the survey, the sculpture was in storage at the college, pending a decision of an outdoor installation location. IAS files include background information compiled by the SOS! surveyor, public relations information from the College, text of the auction record, and a related article from the Birmingham Post-Herald Aug. 6, 1992.
