Description:
Two Doric columns, each with twenty flutes, set at opposite ends of the park. The column at the Park Avenue has a two-course octagonal pedestal and no ornament above the Doric capital. The column at Salisbury and Dean Streets is topped by a granite sphere and has only a single octagonal course for a pedestal.

Remarks:
The columns (minus the sphere) were originally part of the portico of the Tremont House in Boston. When the house was torn down, Stephen Salisbury III purchased two of the columns and had them shipped to Worcester. In 1894, the columns were installed as boundary markers for the new Institute Park, the park land donated by Salisbury. IAS files contain an April 3, 1986, Monument Inventory sheet from the City of Worcester's Parks and Recreation Department.
