Inscription:  (On rear of grotto:) In Thanksgiving/for Sister Arcadius/recovery 1941 Description:  Full-length figure of the Virgin Mary stands in the recess of a grotto. St. Bernadette kneels to the left. Subject:  Religion -- New Testament -- Mary Religion -- Saint -- St. Bernadette Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Alaska -- Fairbanks Grotto Sculpture Owner:  Immaculate Conception Parish, 115 North Cushman Street, Fairbanks, Alaska 99701 Remarks:  These figures replace others which were destroyed by vandals in 1993. The original sculpture was located at St. Joseph's Hospital (now Denali State Bank), ca. 1941 to 1968. The sculpture was moved in 1968 (about 175 feet) from the hospital grounds, when donated to Immaculate Conception Parish by the Sisters of Providence, who administered the hospital.
