Description:
Barrymore's head is tilted up and back to the proper right and her torso is twisted to the proper left. She stretches her proper right arm across her body and clasps her hands together at her proper left hip. Her long hair falls to her waist. She is draped in clothing which is belted at the waist. Sculpture is installed in a niche on the facade of the building.

Remarks:
One of four figures commissioned by I. Miller for his shoe company's new building as a gift to the city of New York. A contest was held to determine which popular actresses should be chosen to represent the various performing arts. Ethel Barrymore was chosen to represent "drama." Inscription on wall just below sculpture reads: ETHEL BARRYMORE/AS/OPHELIA.
