    Description: 
    A rectangular column topped with a bas-relief depiction of news photographer Joseph Rosenthal's photograph of the Marines raising the U.S. flag over Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima, on February 23, 1945. Centered below the scene is a relief of an eagle with spread wings, standing on the handle of a sword. Flanking the eagle are four military emblems, two on each side. The sculpture is mounted upon a multitiered base, surrounded by shrubs.
