    Description: 
    A portrait of General Douglas MacArthur shown walking ashore on Leyte during his return to the Philippines. He strides forward with his proper right foot in front of his proper left foot. He is dressed in a World War II dress uniform and a cap with an eagle emblem on the front. The sculpture is mounted atop a three-tiered base.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was created for the Academy of Freedom at Howard Payne University under the auspices of Jack Mashburn of Midland, director of the academy. Funding was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ussery of Dallas and public school student councils around Texas. The artist chose to depict General Douglas MacArthur in his most famous posture from World War II, the moment he strode ashore on his return to Leyte in the Philippines on October 20, 1944. The sculpture was cast in Italy.
