    Remarks:
In February of 1923 during a special town meeting, the town voted to appropriate $1,500 to be raised from taxes for the construction of a war monument. Francis Ward, a Hinsdale native and public servant in the state of Wyoming, donated a cannon that had been used in the Civil War and which had been saved from a scrap-iron pile. The granite used for the base was quarried in Monson, Massachusetts. IAS files contain a related article from The Berkshire Eagle (Massachusetts), Nov. 11, 1985.
