Description:
Bust of a young man dressed in World War I military uniform. Army jacket is buttoned down front and high-collared, head is beardless with short hair. Gaze directed forward. Mounted on a flaring, multi-tiered granite base with sculptured bronze wreath laid at proper left and proper right sides.

Remarks:
Sweeney was a resident of Manchester and the first of the town's citizens to die in World War I; Henry J. Sweeney Park was established on land purchased in 1917. Sculpture was commissioned from Gosselin in 1931 at a cost of $3,750. The bust was dedicated on Armistice Day in 1931. SOS! report includes citations to related articles in Manchester Union, dated Nov. 10th, Nov. 11th and Nov. 12th, 1931.
