Description:
Memorial stele is triangular and pyramidal in shape. Quotes from economist Henry George's work "Progress and Poverty" are incised on each side.

Remarks:
The monument honors Henry George (1839-1897), an economist and founder of the single tax theory. It was funded by the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation. The City of Fairhope was an experimental community which incorporated the single tax theory. IAS files include a booklet entitled "Fairhope and the Fairhope Single Tax Corporation," architectural plans for the monument and a related article from the Eastern Shore Courier (Fairhope, AL), with information about Henry George.
