    Remarks:
The statue was authorized by the State of Hawaii, through its eighth legislature (1975), Act 173. $75,000 was appropriated for the statue, shipping charges and landscaping. A jury was appointed by Governor George R. Ariyoshi on Oct. 5, 1976 to conduct a design competition and the commission was awarded in 1978. Because of a dispute over the site placement of the statue (which required relocating a Liberty Bell replica), it was stored in its crate for over a year, prior to installation. Fred Roster assisted with the placement of the statue and base. The statue was dedicated on April 10, 1982, on the 105th anniversary of the Queen being named heir apparent to the Hawaiian throne. In 1986, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts board initiated a $50,000 project to integrate a text plaque and improve the landscaped setting. In 1993, conservation work was done by Pacific Regional Conservation Center (Bishop Museum, Honolulu).
