Remarks:
This marker, one of two in Russell, commemorates General Henry Knox, who in the winter of 1775-1776 delivered a "train of artillery" from Fort Ticonderoga to General George Washington in Cambridge. This marker is one of several that traces the route General Knox took to transport his load of artillery across lakes and rivers, over hills, and through mountain passes. Without these guns, Washington could not have forced the British out of Boston in March of 1776. IAS files contain a copy of the Massachusetts Historical Commission Form C - Objects questionnaire dated June 1993.
