Monument stands at the center of a communal burial plot reserved for fire fighters in Greensboro in 1889; three men were buried there prior to the monument's dedication in 1924; at time of SOS! survey, eight others buried there. Figure is oriented towards the southeast, looking in the direction of the fire department's original headquarters on North Greene Street. Monument was erected with funds set aside for several years by the Greensboro Fire Department (10% of monies received).
