    Description: 
    Full-length figure of a fire fighter standing atop a tall, four-sided, stepped base. Figure wears fire fighting gear, including helmet, long overcoat, and boots. He holds the nozzle of a hose in both hands and gazes up towards proper right. His feet straddle the hose; a fire hydrant stands behind his proper left foot.

    Remarks: 
    Monument stands at the center of a communal burial plot reserved for fire fighters in Greensboro in 1889; three men were buried there prior to the monument's dedication in 1924; at time of SOS! survey, eight others buried there. Figure is oriented towards the southeast, looking in the direction of the fire department's original headquarters on North Greene Street. Monument was erected with funds set aside for several years by the Greensboro Fire Department (10% of monies received). IAS files contain copy of clipping from Greensboro News & Record, People & Places Section, Nov. 7, 1989, pg. 1 & 2.
