    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of John McLaren. He is depicted in middle age, is balding and wears a moustache and goatee. He wears a suit with a vest with a small bow tie and lace-up boots. He looks down at a pine cone which he holds in his proper left hand. Behind the figure is a tree stump with a branch and pine needles which touch the figure's back on the proper right side. The bronze sculpture stands on a concrete base which lies flush with the ground.

    McLaren was responsible for the creation of Golden Gate Park and served as Park Superintendent. The sculpture was given to the city in 1944 by A. B. Spreckels.
