The sculpture is a replica of The Lone Sailor statue installed at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. (IAS record DC000126). The sculpture is one of many The Lone Sailor statues installed around the country as part of the Statue Outreach Program of the United States Navy Memorial. The statue is dedicated to all of the Sea Sevices -- Navy, Marine coprs, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine. The sculpture was installed by the San Francisco Lone Sailor Statue committee with a funding appeal that totaled more than three milliion dollars.
