    Description: 
    Relief portrait of William Gleason is affixed to lobby wall of Gleason Works. The figure is seen from the waist up in partial profile. He is balding with porkchop sideburns and a moustache and wears a coat. The relief is flanked by two vertical columns of gears. Below the relief is a gear flanked by oak leaves. There are shamrocks in the center of the gear.

    Remarks: 
    William Gleason (1836-1922), a native of Ireland, was founder of the Gleason Works machine shop in Rochester. He invented and manufactured the bevel gear cutting machine. IAS files contain a related article from the journal "Machinery," Feb. 1932.
