Description:
A gold medal depicting on the obverse side a nude male figure seated with a scythe held in his lap. On the reverse side there are three depictions showing the evolution of grain harvesting. In the foreground a male figure symbolizing hand labor uses a flail to cut grain. In the middle ground men are seen cutting grain with sickles while women are seen gleaning the fields. And, in the background there is a man using the McCormick reaper drawn by a team of horses.

Remarks:
The design was commissioned by Oliver Zimmerman who was an engineer with the McCormick Company of Chicago. The medal was given by the McCormick family as a memorial to Cyrus Hall McCormick (1809-1884) inventor of the reaper.
