H. 5 ft. x W. 5 ft. (4,000 lbs.). Description:  Four eagles are mounted atop Ionic columns flanking the entrance arch to a building. Each eagle perches with wings partially spread and head turned to the side. Layers of well-defined feathers cover each eagle's body. Subject:  Animal -- Bird -- Eagle Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Georgia -- Macon Architectural component Sculpture Owner:  Administered by Georgia Power Company, Maintenance, Key Street, Macon, Georgia 31201 Located Georgia Power Division Office Headquarters, Fifth & Cherry streets, Macon, Georgia Provenance:  Formerly located Stratford Academy, Macon, Georgia Formerly located Terminal Station, Fifth & Cherry Streets, Macon, Georgia Remarks:  The sculptures were designed by the artist specifically for the facade of Terminal Station, which was constructed during 1915 and 1916 at a cost of $1,000,000. The building project was financed by the Macon Terminal Company (comprised of the Central, Southern, Georgia Southern, and Florida Railroads). The station was designed by New York architect Alfred Fellheimer; the building contractor was J. Henry Miller of Baltimore. In 1973, in anticipation of Terminal Station's proposed demolition, Southern Railway removed the sculptures and gave them to Stratford Academy, where they remained until 1984. However, Terminal Station was never demolished and, in 1977, it was purchased by the City, who in turn sold the building to Georgia Power Company in 1982, with the stipulation that it be restored. In Feb. 1984, with the consent of Stratford Academy, the eagles were returned and remounted on their original location on Terminal Station, now George Power's Division headquarters building.
