The eagles were removed from Pennsylvania Station in the mid-1960s when the old station was demolished. Following the demolition, this eagle head was rescued by Albert Fritsch, a mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad who took the eagle head home and installed it on the lawn of his home in Freeport, New York. When he died in 1992, his daughters Mary Fritsch and Margaret (Fritsch) Flitsch inherited the eagle head. In 2011, they lent the sculpture to the New York Transit Museum for their exhibition "The Once and Future Pennsylvania Station" held in the museum's annex gallery in Grand Central Station.
