Inscription:  AM-ART Bronze FDY Chicago (Front, east side:) THIS SHAFT IS DEDICATED/AS AN ALTAR OF REMEMBRANCE/TO THE CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS/WHO FOUGHT AT FORT DONELSON,/FEBRUARY, 1862/BY THE DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY/OF TENNESSEE/"THERE IS NO HOLIER SPOT OF GROUND/THAN WHERE DEFEATED VALOR LIES." (Rear, west side:) FEBRUARY 13, 1862/FEBRUARY 14, 1862/FEBRUARY 15, 1862/SOMEWHERE OUR UNKNOWN/DEAD WILL BE FOREVER, WITH ARMS UNSTACKED FOREVER, WITH/COLORS THAT CANNOT BE FURLED. (Left, south side:) HONOR THEIR VALOR, EMULATE THE DEVOTION WITH WHICH THEY GAVE THEMSELVES TO THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY, NEVER LET IT BE SAID THAT THEIR SONS IN THEIR SOUTHERN STATES HAVE FORGOTTEN THEIR NOBLE EXAMPLE. Founder's mark appears. Description:  A standing Confederate soldier wearing a military uniform which includes a brimmed hat. He holds a rifle diagonally in both hands. His proper left leg is bent and the proper left foot is forward. The figure is positioned on a pedestal in front of a large obelisk. On the obelisk, above the soldier's head is a Confederate flag in relief. The bottom of both the pedestal and obelisk are stepped.
