Description:
A full-length figure of Christ, and smaller decorative reliefs, on church facade. Christ stands with arms extended, palms facing upwards. He has a beard, wears sandals and a long robe, and looks slightly downward. The sculpture is mounted on a projecting base in a niche over the church's main entrance doors. To Christ's left is a relief of the Alpha symbol superimposed on a cross; to his right, an Omega symbol also superimposed on a cross. Square decorative rosette panels flank the Christ sculpture at shoulder level. The building has additional relief decorations, including a cameo face in proper left profile, floral motifs, and an ornate cross containing a Bible and symbolic representations of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The First United Methodist Church was designed by Ann Arbor architects Fry and Dasurin, in collaboration with the Detroit firm of Smith, Hinchman and Grylls Associates.
