(Incised on dado, south side:) CHAPLAIN (Names of local Union soldiers are incised in each face of the pedestal, 10 on each side except for the east side which has eight) (Incised on front face of pedestal:) ERECTED TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY/OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN/THE WAR OF 1861 (In recessed panel on front of pedestal in raised letters:) LINCOLN unsigned

Obelisk stands on a pedestal and tiered base. There is an upraised cannon barrel in relief on each corner of the pedestal.
