    Remarks:
The monument was erected by the Chatham Artillery, a volunteer militia group of Savannah, Georgia, organized in 1786. It commemorates the 200th anniversary of the organization, as well as the soldiers who served with it. The granite shaft was designed by Milton Little of Oglethorpe Marble and Granite Company of Savannah. The bronze eagle was a stock item, supplied by Strassacker Bronze. The design of the monument was inspired by the 101st Airborne Memorial (see IAS DC000205) in Arlington National Cemetery. The height of the monument was subject to a height limitation placed on Emmett Park monuments by the Savannah Park and Tree Commission. IAS files contain: a partial transcription of names on front of base; a full transcription of inscriptions on sides of base; an excerpt from a report for the Savannah Park and Tree Department entitled "The Monuments and Fountains of Savannah" by Dorothy H. Stewart, June 1993, pg. 577-578.
