Description:
Four-sided tiered base supports a round decorative pedestal from which emerges a flagpole. There is a medallion of George Washington in profile installed on one side of the base.

Remarks:
Gift of the Monument Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1965, the monument was moved when its site was cleared for construction of a new park. It was moved to another location within Gateway Park. The medallion was replaced by the artist with a recast of the original, for $12,500. IAS files include notes from a publication entitled "Monuments and Sculpture on Park Property," copies of historic photographs of the monument's construction and dedication and additional information from the files of the Minneapolis Park System.
