Full-length figure of a color-bearer stands atop a tall granite shaft. He wears a Civil War uniform and cap. He clutches the flag; the staff of the flag is held diagonally over his proper right shoulder. The flag drapes to the side of his proper right foot. At the base of the shaft stand two Union soldiers, face out with their backs against opposite sides of the shaft. On one side stands an officer. He wears a slouch hat and short cape. He holds a sword in his proper right hand; his proper left hand rests on his other hand. A sheath hangs on his proper left side. On the opposite side stands the Infantryman. He has a moustache and wears a great coat and cap. He holds a musket with both hands; the butt of the gun rests on the ground. A sword or bayonet hangs from his proper right hip. The shaft ends in a four-stepped platform.
