Description:
An ornate wrought iron picket gate, supported by flanking stone pillars attached to a wall. Included in the gate's design are medallions with serpentine forks. The gate is topped with a spear-like border.

Remarks:
The gates were given by Abel (or Abil) Corbin, a government official in Washington who was married to Virginia Grant, the sister of President Ulysses Grant. Mr. Corbin acquired the gates after they arrived at the White House and did not fit. The stone wall supporting the gates was built by the Corbin family. IAS files contain newspaper articles: Evening Sun, Sept. 18, 1992, and Dec. 14, 1992.
