Located Columbia Square, Habersham Street, center of square, Savannah, Georgia 31401
Provenance:
Formerly located Wormsloe Plantation, Savannah, Georgia
Remarks:
The fountain was previously located at Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, and is sometimes referred to as the "Wormsloe Fountain." It was installed at its current site as part of a renovation project for Columbia Square that was paid for by an Urban Beautification Grant (a federal Urban Renewal program). The landscape plan was designed by Sam Monk, Director of the Park and Tree Department. The color of the fountain, "Swamp Root" green, is a Martin-Senour Paint Company color based on old Savannah colors. A plaque on the east side of the surrounding wall reads: FOUNTAIN FROM WORMSLOE/GIVEN IN MEMORY OF/AUGUSTA AND WYMBERLEY DERENNE/BY THEIR DAUGHTER/EUDORA/1970. IAS files contain: an excerpt from a report for the Savannah Park and Tree Department entitled "The Monuments and Fountains of Savannah" by Dorothy H. Stewart, June 1993, pg. 564-565.
