The sculpture is a casting of the original bronze sculpture exhibited by the artist at the Paris Salon. The sculpture was originally located on the Sub-Courthouse front lawn; it was moved to its present location on the back lawn when the courthouse was expanded. Cost of the sculpture and fountain was $3,000 - $5,000. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Port Arthur News, Aug. 2, 1938, June 18, 1939, March 11, 1941 and Dec. 24, 1961.
