    Description: 
    Full-length bronze nude figure of a young boy. He is sitting on a rock; a fishing net is draped across his lap. His torso is bent to the proper left and he holds a shell to his proper left ear. His proper right arm is extended in front of him. His proper left leg is bent and the foot rests high on top of a rock. He is smiling. The sculpture rests on a stone boulder in the center of a fountain basin.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is a casting of the original bronze sculpture exhibited by the artist at the Paris Salon. The sculpture was given as a gift to the city by Edith Norton in honor of her father, Charles Eugene Smith, mayor of the city between 1899 and 1901. The sculpture was originally located on the Sub-Courthouse front lawn; it was moved to its present location on the back lawn when the courthouse was expanded. Cost of the sculpture and fountain was $3,000 - $5,000. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Port Arthur News, Aug. 2, 1938, June 18, 1939, March 11, 1941 and Dec. 24, 1961.
