Description:
A standing portrait of George Washington with his proper left hand resting on the top of his sword and his proper right hand extended. He is dressed in his military uniform. The sculpture rests on a square granite base. The base is surrounded by twelve granite posts connected in groups of three by a narrow bronze rail threaded through the top of each post.

Remarks:
The sculpture was presented to the citizens of Newburyport by Daniel I. Tenney. Architect, Rufus Sargent designed the base and the Rockland granite for the base was obtained from the quarry of M. T. Jameson & Co. IAS files contain an article from the Newburyport Daily Herald, Feb. 22, 1879.
