(On base:) THEODORE ROOSEVELT/ROUGHRIDER (Bottom front on plinth:) This memorial/was cast by the Roman Bronze Works from the/first working model for the heroic size statues/at Portland, Oregon and Minot, ND. unsigned Founder's mark appears.
Description:
Roosevelt on horseback, wearing a roughrider uniform. He leans back slightly in the saddle, pulling the reins with both hands. His proper left hand is across his front waist; the proper right hand at his proper right thigh. He wears a wide-brim hat and glasses. Horse stands with all four hooves on the ground, his tail arching.

Remarks:
Commissioned and funded by Dr. Henry Waldo Coe. This sculpture is a smaller version of one commissioned by Dr. Coe for the City of Portland, Oregon in 1922. Dr. Coe later presented this smaller version of Proctor's sculpture to the City of Mandan and another one to the City of Minot. IAS files contain related articles from the Mandan Pioneer (Mandan, ND), June 30, 1968 and the Bismarck Tribune (Bismarck, ND), May 4, 1922 which discuss commissioning.
