    Description: 
    An owl perches in a shell-like ornamental recess above an arched entrance to a building. The owl stands on a floral pedestal with bas-relief oak and pine branches framing the bottom of the perch and recess. The marble sculpture serves as the key block of the arch.

    The library building was dedicated on Nov. 18, 1914. IAS files contain copy of related architect's statement from the Dedication Exercises. The owl, as Athena's bird, symbolizes Learning and the branches of native oak and pine within its claws may be interpreted as Strength and Truth.
