The sculpture was fabricated by McNeel Marble Works. Contractor J. T. Smith of H. H. Jones & Company of Griffin, Georgia, erected the sculpture and added the inscriptions on the base. The sculpture was originally placed on courthouse property in city square. When the new post office was built on this property, it was moved to Hill Park on South Main Street.
