    Description: 
    A marble obelisk with a full-length figure of Capt. John Mullan in bas-relief stands on a pyramidal base. The figure is bearded, wears a hat, buckskin leggings, moccasins and holds a flintlock rifle in his proper right hand. A pistol is tucked into his belt.

    Captain John Mullan was a surveyor and constructor of the Military Road from Fort Benton, Montana to Walla Walla, Washington completed in 1862. IAS files include the text of a nearby plaque which details the history of the Mullan Wagon Road.
