Description:
A Union Civil War soldier in uniform stands at parade rest. Both hands clasp the barrel of his musket, the butt of which rests on the ground. He wears a hat, cape, coat, pants, and boots. He stands atop a granite base that is ornamented with garlands and patriotic symbols, including cannons, Grand Army of the Republic medal, crossed rifles, an anchor, and portraits of General Grant and Admiral Farragut. The pedestal sits on a base surrounded by a fence.

Remarks:
The sculpture was initiated by the 1891 Nevada State Legislature, which voted to erect a monument to Union soldiers who died at Fort Churchill, Nevada Territory. An appropriation of $1,000 was made to purchase a monument.
