The sculpture was installed through a bequest from Mrs. Livingston Mims. The sculpture was originally sited outdoors at Piedmont Park, on a stone pedestal. The pedestal is still located in Piedmont Park. After the sculpture had been stolen by vandals and recovered three times, it was put into storage. The sculpture was loaned to Oglethorpe University in 1985 for its sesquicentennial celebration and has been on loan to the university and displayed indoors since that time.
