Description:
Full-length figure of James Bowie. He kneels on his proper left knee. He holds a rifle barrel with his proper right hand; the butt of the gun rests on the ground by his proper right foot. He holds the holster containing his knife with his proper left hand. He wears a buckskin tunic and trousers with long boots. The bronze figure rests on a pink granite base. Bronze bas-relief seals of the state of Texas are found on each side of the base.

Remarks:
The sculpture, which cost $7,500, was funded by the Texas state Commission for Texas Centennial Celebrations. Watkins designed the base of the monument. IAS files contain copy of related excerpt from Harold Schoen's "Monuments Erected by the State of Texas to Commemorate the Centenary of Texas Independence", Austin: Commission for Texas Centennial Celebrations, 1938, pg. 68.
