(On cross at top of base, incised lettering:) PHILIPPINE ISLANDS CUBA PORTO RICO USA/UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS 1898-1902 unsigned Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    A bronze relief plaque mounted upon a rough-hewn granite base depicts a standing figure of a uniformed Spanish-American War soldier with a battleship in the background. The soldier wears field dress and stands at ease, his proper left hand on his hip, a rifle cradled in his proper right arm. His pant legs are tucked into his boots and he wears a soft hat and an open-collared shirt with the sleeved rolled up. At the top of the relief plaque is the cross emblem of the United Veterans of Spanish Wars. At the top of the granite base is a larger version of the cross emblem.

    Remarks: 
    This memorial commemorating the veterans of the Spanish-American War was given by the Department of Georgia National Auxiliary United Spanish War Veterans during their fourteenth annual convention in June of 1937. IAS files contain: newspaper articles from the Rome News Tribune: June 4, 1937, pg. 1, 13 and June 8, 1937, pg. 1, 2, discussing the dedication.
