    Description: 
    Christ kneels in front of an angel in the garden of Gethsemani. Christ clasps his hands in prayer and rests his arms on a pile of stones. The barefoot angel holds a chalice with both hands. The two figures are set on individual rectangular bases. A fieldstone wall starts at ground level on either side of the sculpture and rises to approximately four feet behind the angel.

    Remarks: 
    Marble plaque on the retaining wall reads: CHRIST PRAYS IN/GETHSEMANI./ERECTED/1932. The sculpture was donated by Gertrude John as a memorial to her husband, Joseph. The sculpture was cast in concrete by a New York firm and was created for the fiftieth anniversary of St. Joseph's Catholic Church (now the Christ the King Catholic Church). IAS files contain related excerpt from Moira Harris' "Monumental Minnesota," St. Paul: Pogo Press, 1992, pg. 81-82.
