Description:
Relief of Christ ascending, his arms held out to his sides with palms up and bare feet pointed downward. He wears a long gown with wide sleeves and there is a halo behind his head. Angels playing trumpets surround his upper body forming an arc. Directly above his head is a descending dove. There are four figures at ground level near his feet. On Christ's proper left is a standing winged figure praying and a female figure with halo, sitting with knees drawn up, and hands held in prayer. On Christ's proper right is a standing winged figure praying, and a kneeling female figure with halo and hands held in prayer. In the background are branches of foliage. The relief is set in a shallow niche on church facade.

Remarks:
The relief cost $26,000 and was given by Mrs. Elizabeth Coates Maddux in memory of her husband, George Coates. It was designed in Austin, TX and cast in Italy the summer of 1975. It was dedicated on St. Valentine's Day the following year. IAS files contain information from "Christ Episcopal Church," New Directions: 1968-1974, San Antonio, TX, pg. 140-141.
