He is seated in a red upholstered chair in front of drapery, which is pulled back slightly to reveal a landscape depicting farmland. He wears a black cut-away jacket with a cream-colored vest and a white shirt. He was educated in Virginia. His home on Walnut Street was built in 1829. He was elected state senator five times and was able to pass a bill that would charter the Central Railroad and Banking Company. He was one of the first two wardens of Christ Episcopal Church.
