    Owner:
Cheltenham Township Library System, Elkins Park Free Library, 563 East Church Road, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania 19117
    Remarks:
The sculpture cost almost $20,000 which was raised through private donation by the Friends of the Elkins Park Free Library. According to the artist, the sculpture evolved from an ancient Mayan Indian belief that the world is a house supported by deities representing the elements. The artist also states that the sculpture reflects the varied functions of a library, and was intended to match the architectural elements of the library. A couple of panels were treated so that there would be no reflection of the sun hazardous to motorists. Corners are rounded so that children will not hurt themselves if they touch the sculpture. A plaque on a nearby wall reads: The House of Knowledge/Joyce de Guatemala/May 19, 1985. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Philadelphia Inquirer, n.d.
