    Description: 
    An angular abstract sculpture with three four-sided legs or pods of different heights and dimensions, connected by three lateral transverse extensions. Each leg is set on an irregular, four-cornered cement base.

    Remarks: 
    Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $45,000 given in 1970 to the City of Wichita. Additional funding was provided by donations. The sculpture cost $105,000. The abstract sculpture has been the object of controversy within the community from its dedication to the present time.
    IAS files contain news clippings from The Wichita Eagle, March 31, 1991 (which discusses model and plans for the sculpture); The Wichita Eagle, March 9, 1972 (which discusses dedication) and The Wichita Beacon, Aug. 22, 1973. IAS files also contain copy of dedication brochure which lists title as Wichita Tripodal.
