Located Central Park, Mason Street west of Unity Street, Berlin, New Hampshire
    Remarks:
The sculpture cost $1,175. It was installed by the Town of Berlin in honor of Spanish-American War veterans and was originally placed further back on Mason street from where it now stands. At some point, the sculpture and bronze dedication plaque were stolen. The sculpture was later recovered from the Androscoggin River and reinstalled. A new granite plaque was added to the base, years later, to replace the original one which reportedly listed the Spanish American War veterans. IAS files contain excerpt from James D. Squires' "The Granite State of the United States," New York: 1956, pg. 431; and articles from the Berlin Reporter, Sept. 5 and Oct. 17, 1940; and related information from the "Forty-Fourth Annual Report of The City of Berlin," Berlin, N.H.: Smith & Town, 1941, pg. 24.
