Remarks:
In 1865, the Lincoln Monument Association was formed to raise funds for a monument to the slain president. By 1871, only $700 had been raised and Nicholas Fejervary said he would donate $1,300 if the name and objective of the association were changed to erect a county soldiers' monument. Donations increased. IAS files contain a related pamphlet.
