    Description: 
    A uniformed Confederate soldier stands at parade rest, his hands at chest level, leaning upon his rifle, which is now missing. The butt of the rifle, which is also missing, once rested on the ground. The soldier wears a billed cap and is bearded, with a sword by his proper left side and a canteen and pouch around his waist in the rear. A bed roll is slung over his proper left shoulder. The soldier is mounted upon a tapered square base.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the Irish Jasper Greens, Companies A and B, First Volunteer Regiment of Georgia, who died in the Civil War. The monument cost $1,870, and the base was fabricated by the Oglethorpe Marble and Granite Company. The monument was dedicated on Memorial Day, 1910. IAS files contain related sections from Isabell Smith Buzzett's "Confederate Monument of Georgia," Atlanta: United Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter No. 18, 1984, pg. 40, 53, 69, 70. IAS files also contain a related article from the Savannah Morning News, April 27, 1910, pg. 5, 7, which discusses the dedication.
