Description:
A Civil War soldier stands wearing a broad-brimmed hat and a blanket roll across his chest. He holds his rifle by the barrel in front of him, butt to the ground. A stump is behind his proper right leg. The sculpture is mounted atop a shaft with rough-cut sides and a stepped bottom.

Remarks:
Installed by the Wallace Edwards Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in honor of those from Taylor County who fought in the Civil War. McKenney's "The Standing Army," Alpharetta, G.A.: W.H. Wolfe Associates, 1993, pg. 112; and Ralph W. Widener's "Confederate Monuments: Enduring Symbols of the South and the War Between the States," Washington, D.C.: Andromeda Associates, 1982, pg. 46. McKenney's 1993 text says the memorial was badly stained, but cleaned in recent years.
